Weight Loss
Breath = Respiration = Work = Carbon Loss
Objectives
- Respiration is the way to remove waste products of cellular respiration.
- Cellular respiration is the process that changes calories to energy.
- The carbon that you breathe out (respire) as carbon dioxide is the carbon that was in the sugars that you ate and broke down for energy (cellular respiration).
- A significant percentage of weight loss is due to the loss of carbon that you breathe out in respiration because you broke down the sugars in cellular respiration to do exercise.

Questions to Think About...
- Write down the molecular formula for cellular respiration.
- If your body has to get rid of the carbon dioxide from cellular respiration and the break down of sugar, how do you get rid of it?
- What does the increase in respiration rate mean to you?
