Relaxing vs. ExercisingFor this experience, I recorded my breath rate when relaxed and when my heart rate was high from exercising. I did cardio before recording the second time. My breath rate double from just relaxing. This is because my heart required more oxygen and that made me take more breaths to fill my body. When working out, I was burning more energy than when I was relaxed; burning more energy meant cellular respiration, which means more oxygen is needed to burn more energy.
A = # of breathes per minute = 19 B = # of breaths per minute after exercising = 41 Percent increase in respiration rate: (41/19) x 100 = 215.8% |
Questions
Write down the molecular formula for cellular respiration:
C6H12O6 + 06 --> CO2 + H2O + ATP
If you are losing weight by breaking down sugar…where does the physical weight go?
Mass is gained from carbon dioxide and water.
So if your body has to get rid of the carbon dioxide from cellular respiration and the breakdown of sugar, how do you get rid of it?
Your body gets rid of carbon dioxide from breathing, sweating, urinating, and defecation.
